Options:
Scan Mode
You can set one of the following mode while scanning a document:
Black and White : the output will be in Black and White
Gray scale : the output type is 256 shades of gray
Color : the output is millions of colors.
Quality
The most important consideration in assuring the quality and usefulness of the scanned image is determining the correct resolution for your scan. Resolution is the sharpness of an image. The optimum resolution depends on two factors -- the resolution capacity of the scanner device and the type of document you are scanning. Note that higher the resolution, the greater will be the final file size. Resolution are measured in dots per inch (dpi). Following are the common resolution settings:-
Fast
|
100 dpi
|
Normal
|
150 dpi
|
Good
|
200 dpi
|
Better
|
300 dpi
|
Best
|
600 dpi
|
| • | You can increase the quality of a black-and-white scan by increasing the resolution to 200 - 300 dpi for fax output. |
| • | When you scan an item for printing or DTP work, the scanning resolution should be high, whereas when you scan an item for general purpose document storage the scanning resolution should be low. |
Note:
| • | OCR conversion generally requires a minimum resolution of 300 or 400 dpi. |

Options
|
| • | High resolution settings create larger files that occupy more disk space on your computer. |
Paper Size
You can select the page size depending on the paper size of the document being scanned ex. US Letter, US Legal, A4 etc.

Description
|
TIFF
|
Tagged Image File Format (abbreviation TIFF) is a file format for mainly storing images, including photographs and line art. TIFF image files can be used on multiple platforms like Mac, Windows, Unix, but they are often larger files. TIFF allows for a wide range of different compression schemes and color spaces. Docsvault provides variety of TIFF format.
TIFF - Uncompressed (*.tif) TIFF uncompressed files are unusually very large in size than other types of TIFF files.
TIFF - Black & White (*.tif) TIFF black-and-white formats, often used to exchange fax images
TIFF - LZW (*.tif) TIFF uses LZW compression, a lossless data compression technique for reducing file size. Lossless means there is no quality loss due to compression.
The important difference between TIFF and most other image file formats is that TIFF has support for multiple pages in a single file.

PDF
|
Portable Document Format is a format useful for text, photos, and drawings. If no changes to the file are needed, this file type is useful for sharing (through an e-mail attachment) and filing because of its generally small file size.
|
JPG
|
JPEG is a commonly used standard method of compression for photographic images. JPEG uses lossy compression of images (Lossy means that some image quality is lost when the JPG data is compressed and saved, and this quality can never be recovered) to reduce file size so they are more manageable. The most common file extension for this format is .jpg. The compression method is not well suited for line drawings and other textual or iconic graphics, and thus the PNG and GIF formats are preferred for these types of images
|
BMP
|
This is often a good choice because most Windows programs accept the BMP file type that allows Windows to display the bitmap on any type of display device. However, bitmap files tend to be larger in size.
|
PNG
|
PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a bitmap image format that employs lossless data compression. PNG supports palette based, grayscale and RGB images. PNG was designed for distribution of images on the internet, not for professional graphics. PNG files nearly always use the file extension PNG or png.
|
Note:
| • | TIFF (B&W and LZW) and PDF are the most commonly used file types in day to day document storage in commercial environments today because of their ability to store multiple pages in one single file. |
| • | JPG or PNG image types are most commonly used for Web pages and to store digital pictures.

Advanced Settings:
Image Settings:
Threshold
Adjusting threshold is like a cut off point to determine which pixel should be considered as black or white when a document is being scanned as black and white image.
Brightness
Select a number from the drop-down list, to make the scanned image lighter or darker.
Contrast
Select a number from the drop-down list, to set the contrast for highlights.
Advanced Settings
Scan Preferences:
Auto Straighten
Click box next to 'Auto Straighten' to let the program determine the straightening line. It will automatically straighten crooked pages by an angle of up to 10%.
Scan both sides of document
You can use this option only if your scanner has duplex capabilities. This will allow a single pass scanning for both the front and back sides of your document. Docsvault will treat this as two subsequent images.
Skip Blank pages
This feature allows you to automatically discard blank pages while scanning. You can specify the ink density threshold in 'Treat as blank if ink coverage is <........'. This will check the percentage of written matter on a page. If it is lower than specified, it will treat that page as blank.
