Scanning a document

•	Place the document in the scanner according to scanner instructions.

•	From the File menu, select Scan Docs.

•	Click on the radio button next to Append... to add the scanned document to an existing PDF or TIFF file in Docsvault.

•	Provide a file name and description.

•	Select the destination, where you want to save the scanned document in Docsvault.

•	Select an appropriate scan profile with predefined settings. For more information see Assigning Profile to Documents.

Scanning Document

•

In Selected Scanner section, select whether Docsvault scan interface or the scanner’s own interface should be used. Click on the checkbox next to 'Use scanner's interface' to use the scanner's own interface. If checked, the 'User Scanner' interface feature will override any settings made in the scanner settings portion of this dialogue box.

•	Click on Change Scanner link to select another scanner from the list.

Docsvault will display only scanners that have a TWAIN or WIA scanning interface.

•	OCR option, when selected Docsvault performs OCR as soon as the document is scanned into PDF or TIFF format. For more information, see OCR Scanning

•	Under Options section, you are allowed to set the scan Mode, Quality, Paper size and File format of the files to be scanned.

•	Click on the Advanced Settings link to brings up an additional section of the screen that will allow you to set Threshold, Brightness and Contrast for Simplex and Duplex scanning. For more information, see Setting the parameters for scanning.

•	Click Scan to scan the document.

You can save a scanned document in TIFF, PDF, JPG, PNG or BMP format.

Note:

•	Document quality and the selection of scanning options greatly affect the quality of OCR.

•	OCR performed on PDF document converts it into searchable PDF files .

•	Docsvault PDF Editor allows you to view and annotate scanned ocr'd document but you cannot edit the contents of the file.

•	You can scan and append to only those PDF files created by using Docsvault scanner interface and not modified.

Tip:

•	At times, maybe you want to send a scanned image to someone strictly as an image, without converting any text or, maybe you are scanning text-free photographs or artwork. You can unselect the OCR option while scanning.
